Very cool old WWII plaque for soldier CHARLES R. ROZELL. The plaque shows he was in the 12th Army 501st Engineering Regiment, 553rd Engineering Construction Batallion Company A. From what I find online using AI, this group was active on D-Day on the beaches of Normandy, specifically Omaha and Utah Beaches. The scene on the plaque appears to show the soldiers working their way up the beach. There are several small military scenes and military symbols around the edges of the plaque. One is a pair of dice showing 11, which was a symbol of good luck as well as a symbol of the month 11, when they stormed the beaches of Normandy. I did not look up the relevance of the other symbols.
The wood section is 15" x 13.5" and the copper section is 13" x 11". There is a name on the hanger on the back which states National Plaque Association Inc, 2700 Broadway, New York City, NY. Again, using AI this shows as a company that produced "honor rolls" and "service" plaques and the thin copper material vs. bronze was available for use in these type of plaques toward the end of the war - late 1944 and in 1945.
I did not find anything online about this service man.
Great old WWII memento and great showing the apparent D-Day scene on the plaque. Neat color on this whole plaque.
Shows some expected age/wear. You can see a few small dings in the copper in the right side of the rectangle area where his name is.
