VINTAGE ROYAL HONG KONG POLICE CUFFLINKS – RHKP – 1969–1997.
Matching pair of vintage Royal Hong Kong Policecufflinks dating from the British colonial period in Hong Kong.
The distinctive insignia features the Queen Elizabeth II/StEdward\'s Crown above a laurel wreath, with the historic Hong Kong harbour scenein the centre and ROYAL HONG KONG POLICE across the lower scroll.
The central scene depicts old Victoria Harbour, including atraditional Chinese junk and Western sailing vessel – part of the historicinsignia used by the Royal Hong Kong Police.
The dating of these cufflinks can be placed within aparticularly interesting period of Hong Kong policing history.
The Hong Kong Police received the “Royal” title in 1969,following its service during the disturbances of 1967. The Force retained theRoyal Hong Kong Police name until the transfer of sovereignty in 1997.
On 1 July 1997 the “Royal” title was removed and the policeinsignia changed substantially, including replacement of the Crown with theHong Kong bauhinia emblem.
