This exceptionally rare prototype Key Airlines pilot wings badge is an archival specimen that captures a fascinating, unreleased chapter in late 20th-century aviation history. Following the 1991 collapse of Pan Am, Key Airlines acquired the intellectual property rights of the legendary National Airlines and designed this unique 3rd issue prototype variant to physically merge the two companies' identities just prior to Key's permanent liquidation in 1993. The stunning gold-tone insignia features a flawlessly detailed wing structure framing a central, vibrant red-and-orange enamel medallion depicting the iconic mid-century "Sun King" profile logo originally created in 1968. Because Key Airlines folded during this corporate rebranding phase, this combined uniform design never made it past the initial prototyping stage, resulting in an extreme scarcity asset with virtually zero market supply. Affixed beautifully to its original dark blue velvet presentation backing with the custom collector classification card documenting its unhallmarked, clutchback configuration, this artifact is a holy grail crossover piece for serious investors specializing in National Airlines history, classified charter operations, and unissued aviation rarities.

These wings came from NASA associate Director Daniel Nebrig’s estate and will Include a copy of the provenance card that the family and estate company made for these historic pieces.
