Historical Background:Victory in the Pacific hinged on air power, as US Navy and Marine Corps fighter pilots battled Japanese Zeros in deadly dogfights over the Solomons, Leyte Gulf, and in the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot until air supremacy in the Pacific was won. Most naval aviators favored the Smith & Wesson 4" .38 Special "Victory" revolver as their personal sidearm, and it was often carried in the specially designed leather belt holster. We have shown a photo of US Marine Corps aviators in WW2; the "flying Leatherneck" at left wears a nearly identical leather holster on his right hip.
