U.S. Military Pocket Compass Wittnauer WWI Era Antique Army Navigation Stamped
Antique U.S. military pocket compass manufactured by Wittnauer, dating to the WWI era.
The compass dial is clearly marked “WITTNAUER,” and the exterior of the hinged case is stamped “U.S.” Features a traditional pocket-watch style metal case with carrying ring, compass rose, cardinal and intermediate directions, and a full 360-degree graduated scale.
This example remains in aged, unpolished condition with surface wear, tarnish, oxidation, discoloration and areas of verdigris consistent with its age and use. The dial has noticeable age-related toning, staining and wear but remains readily legible. Please examine all photos closely for condition.
The compass needle moves, but directional accuracy has not been tested or guaranteed. Offered as an antique military collectible.
Measures approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter, excluding the carrying ring.
A desirable early Wittnauer U.S. military compass for a collection of WWI militaria, Army field equipment, antique navigation instruments or military compasses.
