A Tiffany Studios “Zodiac”pattern patinated bronze pen tray. Stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS, NEW YORK, 1000
This has a handsome bronze patina - though I’m reluctance to call it original as this was painted black when I first found it at an estate sale some years ago. Fortunately the paint must have been water based (it almost seemed like India ink) and it mostly peeled off pretty easily once I’d soaked it in warm water. This is about what it looked like underneath - I gently cleaned it once to get the rest of the black off. It’s gotten “richer” looking since then which makes me think it’s not fully the original patina, but still, think it’s most handsome and appropriate and makes this a nicely affordable example of real Tiffany Studios object. Circa 1906-1920. It’s a great little example of Tiffany;s art nouveau design for practicable objects and features zodiac signs at the two ends. The back is stamper TIFFANY STUDIOS, NEW YORK, 1000I’m offering two other Tiffany Studios desk items in separate sales : a brightly gilded Zodiac pattern ashtray and more textured gold-finished Modeled pattern cigarette box.
