This is an exceptional early 1900s antique Tiffany Studios New York “Pine Needle” inkwell, pattern #844, a highly sought-after example of American Art Nouveau desk accessories. Designed during the height of Tiffany Studios’ bronze and glass production, this piece reflects the firm’s dedication to naturalistic design and superior craftsmanship.
The inkwell measures approximately 4” wide and 4" tall, making it a substantial and display-worthy desk piece. It features the iconic Pine Needle pattern, a design introduced by Tiffany Studios in the early 20th century, inspired by organic forms and the flowing lines of nature. This pattern was part of a broader movement within Tiffany Studios to elevate everyday objects—such as desk sets—into works of art through intricate bronze overlays and richly colored Favrile glass.
The bronze has developed a beautiful, original aged patina, enhancing its antique character. The Favrile glass panels are in perfect condition, with no cracks, chips, or repairs, and exhibit the soft, luminous quality that Tiffany glass is known for. The hinged lid opens smoothly and retains its original design integrity.
Importantly, this piece includes a perfectly fitted glass inkwell insert, which sits securely inside—something often missing or replaced in lesser examples. The insert is clean and intact, ready for use or display.
