This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is 5½ x 3½ inches (140x90mm) and it is printed on resin-coated (RC) photographic paper around the 1990s from an original 1958 negative.
It shows a steam locomotive pulling passenger carriages through a complex railway junction. The train is travelling along multiple sets of tracks with railway sheds and buildings visible in the background. Steam and smoke are rising from the locomotive's funnel.
The reverse has handwritten text in blue ink reading '61671 "Royal Sovereign" at Cambridge. June 1958.' with the word 'July' written above 'June'. There is also a number '5886' written in the bottom right corner above a crossed-out number.
