Gorgeous set of three 9-inch porcelain plates with shimmering raised-paste gold and tiny jeweled enamel accents in turquoise, cobalt, and pink. Each plate shows the same theme but the compositions vary slightly—the floral sprays and dragonflies are placed a bit differently on each, making a lovely coordinated-but-not-identical trio.
Attribution: Unmarked, but the combination of heavy raised gilt with dotted “jeweled” enamels, the asymmetric branch layout with dragonflies, and the glazed recessed base with a narrow ground foot ring are all hallmarks of Meiji/Taishō Japanese export work (often called the Nippon era), circa 1900–1920. Many pieces from this period were paper-labeled or decorator-marked, so unmarked examples are common.
Size: 9" diameter each.
Use ideas: wall display (plate hangers), entry catchplates, dresser valet, candle base (use a liner), or under-plates for small vases/flowers. Hand-wash; not microwave/dishwasher safe.
CONDITION: FAIR
(Poor-->Fair-->Good-->Very Good-->Excellent-->Mint):
Overall presentable vintage condition with expected gilt/enamel wear from age and use; small chips on the underside rim (pictured) that don’t show when displayed; light surface marks. Please review photos for the best look at condition.
WEIGHT (w/o packaging): 2 lbs 10 oz
I aim to please, and describe every item to the best of my ability. But please note that my vintage items often received frequent use back in their day, so may show visible signs of wear and age. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way, as I treasure those marks of the past.
