This item is an ICG Genuine Statue of Liberty Copper Shavings Relic. It features authentic copper shavings sourced directly from the original copper skin of the Statue of Liberty.
Historical Background: The metal was salvaged and preserved during the monument\'s massive centennial restoration project between 1984 and 1986. During this restoration, the original iron armature engineered by Gustave Eiffel was replaced with stainless steel to stop severe galvanic corrosion, and various components of the weathered copper skin were repaired or replaced. Rather than being discarded, select portions of the original copper were preserved as historical keepsakes.

Certification: It is professionally certified as genuine and permanently sealed in an archival-safe holder by Independent Coin Graders (ICG), a prominent third-party numismatic grading service.
Value: These slabbed historic relics are widely collected as patriotic Americana memorabilia. While not individually numbered, there are only a limited number of examples created during this restoration project, thus contributing to the rarity and unique properties of these highly collectible pieces of history.
