Overview
This cast bronze fitting is formed in a distinctive A-shaped or triangular configuration, designed to join or reinforce intersecting leather straps. The front displays molded geometric elements and recessed circular details, while the reverse retains two integral studs used to secure the piece firmly to leather. Such mounts were employed on Roman military belts, harness systems, or utilitarian strap assemblies where strength and durability were required.
Roman junction mounts of this type served both practical and visual purposes. They reinforced stress points in leather equipment while also contributing to the standardized decorative language of Roman military and civilian fittings. The compact yet robust construction suggests use on personal equipment rather than furniture or architectural fittings.
Authenticity Check
The mount is cast in bronze using Roman-period techniques and exhibits a cohesive ancient patina with mineral accretions consistent with long burial. Surface wear, corrosion texture, and casting characteristics are consistent with authentic Roman strap fittings. The attachment studs are integral to the casting and show no signs of modern alteration or repair.
Comparable Examples
Comparable Roman bronze belt and harness junction mounts are known from military contexts and settlement sites across the Roman world. Similar triangular or junction-type fittings are documented in archaeological reports relating to Roman leather equipment and military dress accessories.
