Ed and I agreed we'd probably get the best return if I slabbed this. Skin to skin variscite with tons of variegation, strong color.
But I hate to break up a nodule with carving potential and I kept looking until it jumped out at me and now I can't stop seeing it. This should go to China or maybe Germany, it deserves the hand of a master carver. There is a magnificent warty, mint green toad lurking just below the surface of this rock. Someone needs to bring him out.
I haven't seen this before. This time capsule came off of Ed's shelves. The variscite I've seen before has a powdery surface, kind of chalky. This is hard and smooth with kind of an organic feel like ivory or some kind of horn. I think this kind of stone can hold a lot of fine detail and would make exceptional carving material.
I am enjoying selling rocks that belong to living people. My goal is to bring in as much money as possible for the people trusting me with consignments while showing the public accurate images, flaws and all, without digital manipulation. Rocks in a box on a shelf don't do anyone any good. Let's see what the next generation can do with them.
