A rare, vintage (pre-2000) bright orange crystal with silver-toned metal key ring from the renowned glass making company Daum of France. Daum became (and remains) famous for a glass-making technique using a “glass paste” method. Later, they created a line of crystal and marketed various jewelry pieces, including this rare piece. It is further unusual to find this in the original box with the original identifying label, which confirms exactly what this was sold as: “Porte-Clas Capucine” which translates from the French as “nasturtium key ring,” or more loosely as “bright orange key ring”. The label also includes the word “argent” which translates to “silver” for the color or tone of the metal.
Frankly, this is really a weird choice for a key ring: the photo shows how large the crystal is, and it weighs almost 2.2 ounces. Also exposing this crystal to contact with keys etc will quickly scratch the crystal. I can’t imagine anyone using this as a key ring.
And in fact this particular one has never been used as a key ring: instead, I used it to hang as an ornament on a Christmas tree. A Christmas tree with sturdy branches. The photos capture a little of how simply lovely this crystal is: backlit it glows.
Condition: The crystal looks in excellent condition: no chips, cracks, or scratches. The surface of the crystal is clearly etched with “Daum France”. The silver-toned metal is also in very good original condition, with some tarnishing evident on the ribbed metal encasing the crystal, and also the chain. The chain is designed with one flattened-piece of metal used to close the chain into a loop. One side of that small piece has a few marks which I cannot make out. I do NOT see any mark which indicates the as sterling silver so best to assume it is just a base silver-toned metal.
The original Daum box is also in very nice shape. There is some color fading/discoloration in the foam inserts inside, but these do not interfere with storage.
