Historical Significance
A rare, matched pair of large 10-inch lidded urns by theTakito (TT) Company(Nagoya, Japan), produced circa1920s-1930s. These high-reliefmoriagepieces were created for the American market to celebrate theColonial Revival. Each vase features a finely hand-painted medallion ofBetsy Ross presenting the first American Flagto George Washington.Design & Artistry
- Technique:Elaborateraised gold moriage(beaded relief) and gilded scrollwork handles.
- Colorway:Vibrant tomato-red ground with a glossy finish.
- Dimensions:10" Tall (to top of lid) x 5.5" Wide.
- Authenticity:Signed with the reddouble-diamond "TT" backstampon both bases.
Condition Report
- Body:Both urns are structurally sound with no chips or cracks to the main porcelain bodies.
- Lids:One lid is in original condition.The second lid has an old, stable repair(see close-up photos). It displays exceptionally well despite the repairis camoflauged by the raised areas of the vases but it is noted that there is a chip and repair which are visible.(see and review all photos). Urns are sold AS IS
- Texture:Fine, "clean" age-appropriate crazing is present within the hand-painted medallions, verifying the 100-year-old age.
- Gilding:Minor, expected gold leaf wear on the high points of the handles and rims.
