Description:Up for sale is a, multi-piece historical archive containing authentic anthracite coal recovered directly from the debris field of the RMS Titanic wreck site. This material was salvaged 12,500 feet below the North Atlantic during the historic July/Aug 1994 Titanic Research and Recovery Expedition.
This is a rare "Master Lot" offering extensive provenance that cannot be replicated by single coal pieces bought on the secondary market.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS LOT:• (1) Large Master Certificate of Authenticity: Hand-numbered Registration No. 137503095, officially issued by RMS Titanic, Inc. on December 17, 1999, specifically to "Jill Short" for entry into the permanent Museum Log as an Authorized Conservator.• (2) Matching Certificates of Origin: Specifying Object No. 94/0036, confirming extraction during the 1994 expedition.• (2) "Fragile Titanic Coal" Sealed Packs: Containing original, un-tampered chunks of shipwreck anthracite coal preserved in clear protective pouches.
HISTORIC SIGNATURE PROVENANCE:The included certificates bear the authentic legal signatures of two legendary figures in Titanic maritime history:1. George Tulloch (1944–2004): The iconic, late President of RMS Titanic, Inc. who pioneered the legal "salvor-in-possession" rights to save the wreck's artifacts for public education.2. Paul-Henri "PH" Nargeolet (1946–2023): The legendary French deep-sea explorer, commander, and Captain of IFREMER. Widely known as "Mr. Titanic," Nargeolet completed 37 dives to the wreckage and supervised the recovery of thousands of iconic artifacts, including this very coal.
Tragically, Commander Nargeolet was one of the 5 crew members who lost their lives in the June 2023 OceanGate Titan submersible implosion while descending to the wreck site. Because he was the diver who originally led the recovery of this actual coal, his hand-signed signature on these 1999 certificates provides an incredibly rare, highly finite, and poignant link to modern maritime exploration history.CONDITION:Documentation remains crisp with sharp edges and bold, unfaded ink. The COA has mild staining on corners from mounting. The coal packs remain structurally factory-sealed and have never been opened. One pouch contains a large solid piece, while the other pouch contains med-sm pieces, both as pictured.
