RARE 1950s Kenneth Begay Navajo White Hogan Sterling Silver Cotton Boll Bolo Tie:
$695.00

This is rare 1950s Kenneth Begay White Hogan \"Cotton Boll\" bolo that was hand-made for the Association of Cotton Growers to be given out to members attending their convention in Phoenix. The original bolo ties had leather cords with sterling silver tips shaped like cotton bales. Begay also made Cotton Boll belt buckles, money clips and earrings for the convention. These items are very scarce and generally sell for $1,000 to $3,000 or more.
The Cotton Boll bolo tie offered here comes with a replacement 43.5-inch braided 4-ply black leather bolo tie cord, 4mm in diameter, with sterling silver tips. The sterling silver bolo itself measures 2-1/8\" long by 1-7/8\" wide and weighs 20 grams.
The vintage bolo is signed with Kenneth Begay\'s KB initials and stamped STERLING together with the White Hogan\'s domed-hogan shop mark. It is in very good condition, wearable as a statement bolo, and highly collectable as a rare Kenneth Begay White Hogan piece.
Kenneth Begay (1913-1977) was a highly acclaimed Navajo silversmith who co-founded the legendaryWhite Hogansilver shops in Flagstaff and Scottsdale AZ with his cousin Allen Kee and owner John Bonnell. The White Hogan billed itself as the \"Home of the World\'s Most Distinctive Indian Silver.\" Indeed, Begay\'s and Kee\'s \"Modernist\" designs gave a clean, less cluttered, more sophisticated look to traditional Navajo jewelry, winning them countless design awards at local fairs, exhibits and Indian arts and crafts shows. Kenneth Begay later managed the Navajo Arts & Crafts Guild store and taught silver-smithing at the Navajo Community College. He is widely considered \"the father of modern Navajo jewelry\" for his clean, bold and modern designs. The White Hogan employed many other celebrated and talented Navajo silversmiths over the years until the shop closed in 2006.
