PEACE SYMBOLSet of Five Multicolor Peace Sign Magnets
A set of five 1.25\" repro flat magnets with the classic peace sign in five color combinations: magenta on yellow, rainbow on black, olive drab on red, red on blue, and yellow on purple.
In the 1950s the \"peace sign\", as it is known today (also known as \"peace and love\"), was designed by Gerald Holtom as the logo for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), a group at the forefront of the peace movement in the UK, and adopted by anti-war and counterculture activists in the US and elsewhere.
The symbol is a super-imposition of the semaphore signals for the letters \"N\" and \"D\", taken to stand for \"nuclear disarmament.” Not copyrighted, trademarked or restricted, the symbol spread beyond CND and was adopted by the wider disarmament and anti-war movements.
Its detractors referred to it as the footprint of the American chicken.
The peace symbol is encoded by Unicode as part of the Miscellaneous Symbols block, at U+262E ☮ PEACE SYMBOL.
One for you, four for your friends!
