Pair of 1917 World War I army camp postcards, \"Field Kitchen\" and \"Practice March,\" both written by a soldier to his mother. Each is postmarked November 1917, and one carries a Little Rock, Ark., Pike Branch postmark.
Handled and aged, with edge toning and light wear. The Field Kitchen card has creases, and the Practice March card has a small edge nick. The pencil writing is faint in places. The Practice March card has no stamp, and the Field Kitchen card has a 2¢ red Washington stamp that appears to be affixed upside down. Please review the photos closely.
The Practice March card is dated Nov. 8, 1917 and postmarked Chillicothe, Ohio, Nov. 9, 1917, with a partial slogan or branch cancel that appears to read \"Sher… Bra….\" The Field Kitchen card is dated Nov. 24, 1917 and postmarked Little Rock, Ark., Pike Branch, Nov. 24, 1917.
Both are addressed to the same woman in Ripley, Ohio, RR #2, and the name appears to read \"Tillie Nickolia.\" The messages appear to say he can\'t get home Saturday and wants to see Mary before she goes back, and that his suitcase hasn\'t arrived and he had another examination and passed. The two cards were mailed from two different camps about two weeks apart.
A fine pair for WWI and military history collectors, soldier-mail and postal-history buyers, Ohio and Arkansas collectors, and genealogists. They also suit anyone building a vintage paper collection.
