Matched pair of small square gilt metal picture frames with mother of pearl inlay and applied cherub figures, in the Hollywood Regency style associated with Matson and similar ormolu-style makers. Unmarked, so offered as style of rather than attributed.
Each frame has a border set with hand-cut mother of pearl tiles, carved with a fluted scallop and framed inside and out by a cast rope twist molding. The round photo opening is surrounded by a gilt panel with wheat-sheaf corner spandrels, each centered with a small faux pearl cabochon. A cast Cupid, winged, with his bow drawn and a quiver at his hip, is mounted at the right edge of each frame and stands proud of the border. He is finished in the round and detailed on the back as well as the front.
The reverse of each frame is cast with an allover daisy and leaf pattern. The round opening retains a clear plastic lens, not glass. A felt disc seats from the back to hold the photo, friction fit, with no turn tabs or clips.
Measurements: 2.5 x 2.5 overall, photo opening 1.5 round.
