You are offerding on an original vintage 8x10 black & white photograph of Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) smoking his iconic pipe, WITH its original vintage wood frame as pictured — photographed by his personal photographer and studio assistant Louie Lamone.
This is NOT a reprint, NOT a press photo, NOT a museum copy. This is an original darkroom print with PHOTO BY LOUIE LAMONE stamped on verso — as shown in photos. You will receive exactly what is pictured: the original photo IN the frame.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER - LOUIE LAMONE (1918-2007):
Louis J. "Louie" Lamone was Norman Rockwell's studio assistant and exclusive photographer in Stockbridge, Massachusetts for 24 years, from 1953 to 1976.
Lamone was far more than a photographer — he was Rockwell's right hand. He documented paintings before they shipped to The Saturday Evening Post, directed Rockwell's models during the extensive photo shoots that were integral to Rockwell's creative process, and even modeled himself — his likeness appears in many Rockwell paintings.
He is so important to Rockwell history that his photograph collection is archived at the Norman Rockwell Museum and on the north wall of Rockwell's studio, there are only two photos of non-family members — one is Louie Lamone, Rockwell's assistant of 23 years.
Lamone's studio stamp "Louie Lamone / Lenox, Mass." is well-documented on authenticated Rockwell prints.
ABOUT THIS IMAGE:
This iconic profile shows Rockwell in his trademark corduroy jacket with his beloved pipe — a detail Rockwell was famous for. As Lamone himself recalled, "paint rags and pipe ashes sometimes conspired to ignite small fires in Rockwell's brass bucket" in the studio. In the background you can see Stockbridge and what appears to be the White House of the Red Lion Inn area — classic Berkshires.
