For sale is a genuine, original NASA 8x10 color photograph – catalog # S93-28212 – issued directly by Johnson Space Center in February 1993.
This iconic image captures Russian cosmonaut Sergei K. Krikalev seated in the rear cockpit of a NASA T-38 Talon jet trainer during his preparation for STS-60 (Discovery, launched Feb 1994), the first Space Shuttle mission to fly a Russian cosmonaut. Krikalev had only returned from his famous 311-day “last Soviet citizen” mission on Mir a few months earlier, making this one of the earliest and most symbolic photographs of post-Cold War U.S.–Russian cooperation in human spaceflight.
Key provenance & collector details:
• Original first-generation print on Kodak paper (watermark on reverse)
• Red NASA litho reference number S93-28212 printed in margin
• Excellent vintage condition: strong gloss, no creases, only light handling wear typical of working press/NASA files from the era
A must-have for any serious Space Shuttle, Russian space program, or Cold War history collection. This exact photo rarely appears on the market in original red-number form.
