Item specifics:
Brand: LineolCountry/Region of Manufacture: GermanyYear: c. 1936–1940Material: Tinplate / pressed steel, rubber tiresType: Toy artillery / military modelScale: 7cm figure scale (approx. 1:24)Total Length: 16 in (40.6 cm)Offered here is an original German-made Lineol 8.8 cm Flak model from the late 1930s — the large-format tinplate version with both transport limbers (Protzen), catalog reference 1230. This is the top-tier piece from Lineol\'s military toy range and the companion gun to their well-known 7cm composition figures.
Retains its factory three-tone \"Mimikri\" camouflage in dark yellow, green, and brown — the sprayed soft-edge scheme Lineol used to mirror the German Army\'s pre-1940 Buntfarbenanstrich. The paint is original throughout with no sign of restoration or repaint.
Fully functional as made:
- Barrel elevates and depresses via the rack-and-pinion sector gear and side handwheel
- Gun traverses a full circle on its pedestal
- All wheels roll freely; rubber tires are supple and clearly molded LINEOL
- Cruciform outriggers fold and deploy; both two-wheel limbers detach for the firing position
- Cable reels retain original cord; tow eyes, chains, and hitch hardware present
Heavy, solid, and remarkably detailed for a toy — riveted shield plates, simulated recuperator cylinders, breech block, and leveling jacks. Displays beautifully either limbered for transport or emplaced in the firing position.
Condition: Very good original played-with condition. Light surface rust on several parts but no breaks and no repaint. See all photos — they form part of the description.
Background:
Lineol was one of Germany’s leading military toy manufacturers through the first half of the twentieth century, best known for its hand-painted composition figures — made from a wood-fiber-and-glue mixture and standardized at roughly 7 cm — and for the tinplate vehicles, guns, and searchlights built to accompany them. Children combined the two into full battlefield dioramas, and pieces like this Flak were designed to be worked: limbered up for transport, then unlimbered and cranked into the firing position. Production of military toys in this vein effectively ended with the war, which is why surviving large-format pieces in original paint are scarce today.
Please review all photos closely, as they form part of the description of condition.
