Niagara Falls Rainbow Illumination Night View Vintage Unposted Postcard 19651
Description
Electric light transformed Niagara Falls into a spectacle that continued long after sunset.
This vintage color postcard, captioned “Niagara Falls by Illumination,” captures rainbow-colored light spilling across the cascading water and rising mist, with visitors silhouetted at a railing beside the Falls.
The reverse preserves the excitement of early tourism advertising under the heading “Exceeds Sun’s Brilliance.” Its description compares the illuminated Falls to the combined effects of sunlight and the Aurora Borealis—a vivid example of how publishers promoted Niagara’s nighttime attraction.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board began providing nightly illumination in 1925. This postcard reflects that tradition, although its reference to “new floodlights” does not establish an exact printing date.
An atmospheric addition to collections of Niagara Falls, historic tourism, nighttime views and early lighting technology.
