Alebrijes (ah-leh-bree-hes) are animals, some fantastical and imaginary, carved out of the wood of sustainably sourced copal trees in Oaxaca, and hand painted in Zapotec patterns. These colorful one-of-a-kind works of art are popular among collectors worldwide. This charming anteater was created by and signed by artists Zeny Fuentes y Reyna (Pina, though she only signs her first name), both award winning, second generation Oaxacan wood-carvers.
