Monon Railroad NW2 #11 headlight control switch box cover & cab cards 1953-1954
The Monon's first NW2 built in February 1942 was the DS-1. In 1947 it was renumbered 11. In 1972 it was sold to Industrial Maintenance Service in Hammond, IN and rebuilt in the old Monon South Hammond roundhouse and sold to the EJ&E as #447. The original equipment headlight control box was being replaced and I (as the unofficial IMS photographer but OFFICIAL lawnmower!) was able to collect this unusual item and have kept it safe for 54 years! I also was able to save the original monthly locomotive unit inspection and repair reports (cab cards) that were required by law to be kept on display in the locomotive cab. These are originals and have been pressed with an official seal. Now you can own this unusual piece of Monon history! There is no doubt that these are the only pieces of the original Monon 11 in existence! The last two photos show the control in the cab of a different locomotive for reference.
