* #1 GOLDEN DREAMS HISTORY: The 1952 Marilyn Monroe calendars never had her name on them. In March 1952, wire journalist Aline Mosby broke the story that starlet Marilyn Monroe was the nude calendar girl & the rest is history! Tom Kelley contacted Marilyn on May 25, 1949. John Baumgarth, a wealthy Chicago manufacturer of calendars, had contacted Kelley about an upcoming calendar and he wanted a new model for artistic nude photo and Marilyn agreed. On Friday, May 27, 1949, Marilyn signed a contract with Tom Kelley under the pseudonym Mona Monroe. The photo session lasted two hours, Saturday, May 28, 1949. Natalie, the wife of Tom Kelley, attended and Kelley took twenty-four pictures, only two would be published. Kelley sold the publishing rights to the firm Baumgarth for $500, and Marilyn received $50 for the photo shoot. Marilyn\'s name was not on the first calendars per her request, until it was leaked out by the press.

* PHOTOGRAPHER INFORMATION: TOM KELLEY - December 12, 1914 - January 8, 1984 was an American Hollywood photographer. David O. Selznick & Samuel Goldwyn retained Tom to take promotional photos of their stars & starlets for magazine covers & advertising. Famous celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Gary Cooper, Greta Garbo, James Cagney, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Roosevelt & Churchill. Kelley is best known for his iconic 1949 nude photos of Marilyn Monroe, one of which was distributed widely as calendar art & was featured in the inaugural issue of Playboy magazine in 1953.

* SALESMAN CALENDAR INFORMATION: Salesman Sample Calendars were used to demonstrate to merchants the print quality of the calendars AKA \'Art Hangers\'. Merchants were often presented with several sizes & styles to choose from as well as the opportunity to print their company name, tag line, address & phone number for promotion of their business. Each year a new series of samples were printed for the salesman to help them sell more calendars. Salesman Sample Calendars are very rare & extremely valuable because previous year samples were almost always discarded & destroyed.
