Rare collection of 38 Meriden, Connecticut stereoview cards with historic interest. They date from 1870 to circa 1900.
Additionally, most of the cards are double sided (a different view mounted on each side of the card), so there are 66 different views here. They are not all identified as Meriden locations, but many are and they all came from the same estate.
Includes:
Two cards depicting “Ruins of a portion of the Meriden Brittania Works July 10, 1870.”
A bird’s eye view of “Meriden about 1885.”
Several views of downtown businesses, parks, city hall, etc.
Several views of Fourth of July festivities with flags, bunting, etc.
“The Great Snow Blockade, March 12th, 1888” (Great Blizzard of 1888), photo credit Green, Meriden, Conn.
“Bridge Over Quinnipiac, Hanover Rd.” Other views of the Quinnipiac River.
Views of the ice storm of 1900.
Several views have a handwritten photographer/ publisher credit of: “Theo. Estricker 118 View St., Meriden, Conn.”
“Bridge over Ravine Hubbard St.”
A local business operated by “Lem’l. H. Butler”
A view purchased from “Gaylord’s 99 Cent Store, West Meriden, Conn.”
and much more.
Virtually all of these are in very good/excellent condition, some with a bit of edgewear. One or two have creasing and wear. These are very scarce cards from small publishers.
