Description
The item in the image is a **Nokyocho**, a **temple stamp book** sold at Kiyomizu-dera, one of Japan\'s most famous temples located in Kyoto. This specific Nokyocho features an artistic depiction of Kiyomizu-dera\'s iconic wooden stage, making it a meaningful and aesthetically pleasing souvenir for visitors.
What is a Nokyocho?A **Nokyocho** is used by pilgrims and visitors to collect **Goshuin**, or temple stamps, from each sacred site they visit. These stamps serve as proof of your visit and often include calligraphy of the temple\'s name and the date of your visit. Collecting these stamps has a rich cultural and religious significance in Japan, especially for those on pilgrimages like the 33-temple Kannon pilgrimage or the 88-temple Shikoku pilgrimage.
How to Use the Nokyocho:1. Visit Temples: Bring your Nokyocho with you to various temples, including Kiyomizu-dera.2. Collect Stamps: At the temple, present your book at the designated area to receive a **Goshuin** stamp. A monk or temple staff will write the temple\'s name in beautiful calligraphy and place a red stamp to certify your visit.3. Create a Collection: Over time, your Nokyocho becomes a personal record of the temples you’ve visited, making it both a spiritual and cultural keepsake.
The book’s connection to Kiyomizu-dera’s iconic stage, with its historical significance and breathtaking views, adds deeper meaning to the experience.
Whether you’re exploring Japanese culture or undertaking a spiritual journey, this Nokyocho offers a beautiful way to memorialize your visits.
