Presented today is this great Hopi Kachina doll, depictingKyash, the Parrot Kachina. This Kachina was quite popular in the 19thcentury, but became extinct by 1900. The costumes and masks were lost ordestroyed, and it wasn’t until 1965 that the Parrot Kachina began to reappear. He dances as a prayer for an increase of parrots, and the indispensablefeathers they produce. i have just been told by a Hopi friend thatprehistorically there was a species of parrot living here in Flagstaff, and theParrot Kachina is actually a depiction of this long gone species. Thisbeautifully traditional example is by the talented and respected ConradTorivio. i have closely followed this very traditional carver's careersince the beginning, and have the pleasure of owning the very first Kachinadoll he carved, when he was only 8 years old. Conrad's work is always strongand clean, very well-made and very traditional. This Parrot Kachina is anexcellent example of his work. This lovely Kachina doll stands 10 inches tall, and is very well-proportioned and dignified. It displays beautifully and wouldlook great in any Kachina doll collection. i absolutely guarantee all aspectsof Conrad's works, and as you all know, if the buyer is unsatisfied for ANYreason, i will immediately return the full purchase price, including shipping. So have fun offerding for this fine Parrot Kachina, and Good Luck to all! BestRegards, Rich
