The vintage holy card featuring the inscription "Oh Mother of the Incarnate Word, pray for us" represents a poignant piece of Catholic devotion, likely produced in the mid-20th century, around the 1940s to 1960s. This card is characterized by its elegant gold-toned serif typography, which underscores the reverence associated with its religious theme. The delicate imagery typically associated with "Madonna and Child" scenes is emblematic of the artistic styles prevalent in Western European religious art, signifying a deep-rooted tradition within the Catholic faith. The manufacturer’s mark, which includes an anchor and the initials "F.B.", along with the notation "MADE IN ITALY", indicates the item’s origin, a common characteristic of devotional items mass-produced in Italy during this era. In addition to its aesthetic qualities, this holy card serves a functional purpose within the Catholic community, often distributed in parishes as prayer aids, bookmarks, or mementos commemorating significant life events such as First Communions or funerals. The item remains in very good vintage condition, exhibiting only slight softening of the corners and minimal edge wear, with colors that remain vibrant and imagery that is clearly defined. The holy card's ability to evoke spiritual connections and serve as a tangible reminder of faith practices situates it firmly within the cultural and commercial landscape of its time, encapsulating the significance of religious ephemera in documenting personal and communal beliefs. The funeral memorial card for Edward A. Slawinski, dated May 14, 2003, epitomizes the practical aspects of memorialization within the context of contemporary funerary practices. The card details his birth on July 11, 1925, and the subsequent funeral service held at St. Vincent dePaul Church in Toledo, Ohio, officiated by Father Gerald Robinson. Calvary Cemetery is noted as the interment site, reflecting the Catholic tradition of burial within consecrated ground. The card is presented in excellent condition, with crisp, black printed text against a stark white background, free from aging signs like yellowing or creasing. This memorial card signifies the cultural customs surrounding death and remembrance, serving not only as a keepsake for mourners but also as a historical document of individual lives and community practices in early 21st-century America.
