Two Harley WLA/WLC series motorcycles plus a military Jeep, photographed at the Kiangwan Airbase in Shanghai, 1946
This original 1946 military snapshot was taken at Kiangwan Airbase in Shanghai, during the immediate post-WWII occupation period when U.S. forces were still operating throughout China. The scene shows a serviceman posed on a Harley-Davidson WLA military motorcycle, with a second WLA-type bike and a military jeep visible further down the road.
These Harley 45-cu-in V-twin motorcycles were standard U.S. Army issue during WWII and continued in service through the late 1940s, especially in overseas bases like Kiangwan. The photo captures a clear view of the vehicles, uniforms, and the rural airbase setting at a moment when American forces were transitioning out of wartime operations.
