Vintage Indian Marble Shankh / Puja Conch in ORIGINAL Velvet Presentation Box

Vintage (c. 1950 - 1960) carved white marble shankh (sacred conch) with intricate hand-painted red, green and gold floral decoration. The shankh is housed in a fitted, hinged blue velvet-covered presentation box with two heavy metal clasps and a fabric-lined interior.
In Hinduism, the shankh (conch shell) is a sacred symbol, particularly associated with Lord Vishnu. It is traditionally blown during puja and other religious ceremonies and represents purity, auspiciousness, and the sacred sound of creation. Decorative shankh are also used as devotional and temple objects.
This piece is solid and quite heavy for its approximately 6-inch size and has beautiful decorative detailing. The presentation box appears to be period and is included.
