This blue wooden Santa carries a winter drive on his long robe. Two laughing children ride in an antique green car, with a basket of white poinsettias on the back. The snowy road curves around to a village at dusk.

The wood waits several years to dry before our carver picks up a chisel. Then he is hand carved from solid natural wood and hand painted with water-based acrylics by a professional artist. That artist signs the base next to our studio stamp.

ABOUT THIS SANTA
Two faces in one small open car are the hardest part to paint. The boy in a flat cap grips the wheel, his red scarf flying. The girl beside him laughs out loud in her pompom hat. Look closer for the wooden-spoke wheels and the fresh tire tracks. Around the back, the road ends at a green door with a wreath. Warm light fills every window, and a little snowman in a red scarf stands by the steps. Painting the road all the way around the robe takes several days. The cool slate blue, with a red cap and mittens, looks right in a blue and white winter display. He stands 14 inches tall on a mantel, a bookcase or a dining table, and the staff lifts out when you pack him away. A drive home for the holidays, painted around one Santa.
