Max Storm Biography & Collection History
Floyd Max Storm(1939–2020) was an eminent American historian, author, and premier collector specializing in the1904 St. Louis World\'s Fair(Louisiana Purchase Exposition). In 1986, he co-founded the1904 World\'s Fair Societyto preserve the memory and artifacts of the exposition.
Storm built what was widely considered the largest and most comprehensive private collection of 1904 exposition memorabilia in existence. He was a renowned expert on fair numismatics and co-authored the definitive reference book1904 Olympic Games St. Louis, Missouri: Official Medals & Badges. His historical expertise earned him aRegional Emmy Awardfor his contributions to the acclaimed documentary,\"The World\'s Greatest Fair\". Following his passing in 2020, items sourced directly from his estate became highly prized.

The Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company was the entity responsible for organizing the 1904 St. Louis World\'s Fair. To finance this massive international exposition, the company raised capital through several means, including:
Stock subscriptions: $5,000,000 was raised from subscriptions to the company\'s capital stock, such as the certificate pictured.
City donations: The city of St. Louis donated $5,000,000.
Congressional appropriation: The U.S. Congress appropriated another $5,000,000.
In total, $15,000,000 was provided to fund the fair.
