Curtis's monumental The North American Indian, published in twenty volumes with twenty accompanying large-format portfolios between 1907 and 1930.The case retains its original gilt-stamped number 18, brown cloth-covered boards, leather/morocco spine and corners, folding interior retaining flaps, and surviving original ties.CASE ONLY - NO PHOTOGRAVURE PLATES OR TEXT VOLUME ARE INCLUDED.Of particular interest, the interior retains an Ex Libris bookplate of the Eastman Memorial Foundation, Laurel, Mississippi, providing documented institutional provenance for this portfolio case.Curtis material with Eastman Memorial Foundation provenance has also been independently documented at sale.Portfolio XVIII originally accompanied the volume devoted to the Chipewyan, Western Woods Cree and Sarsi.The case remains in original, unrestored condition with wear consistent with age and use, including rubbing and areas of surface loss to the leather, edge and corner wear, surface wear to the cloth, and deterioration/fraying to the original ties. The folding interior retaining flaps remain present.No restoration has been undertaken.Approximate dimensions: 23" high x 19" wide x 1" deep.Please examine all photographs carefully, including the detailed photographs of the binding, corners, ties, interior and Eastman Memorial Foundation bookplate, as they form an important part of the condition description.A scarce surviving component of the original presentation of Edward S.
