Yehuda Meir Shapiro(Polish:Majer Jehuda Szapira; 3 March 1887 – 27 October 1933) was a prominentPolishHasidicrabbiandrosh yeshiva, also known as theLublinerRav. He is noted for his promotion of theDaf Yomistudy program in 1923, and establishing theChachmei Lublin Yeshivain 1930.[2]
Shapiro was considered agaon(Torah genius) in his lifetime. He studied Torah extensively and was a great scholar even by the high standards of the era he lived in. His two major works areOhr HaMeirandImrei Da\'as.
- Ohr HaMeir- It was in Petrakov that he printed his book ofresponsaentitledOhr HaMeirin 1926. As a work it operates on many different subjects, fromphilosophytohalacha.
- Imrei Daas- a compilation ofTorahthoughts onHalachaandAggada, which was lost during World War II. The book contained an approbation from RabbiMeir Arikof Meturnah.
- Vortelach- Shapiro was a quick and brilliant thinker, and his numerousvortelach(short responsa) have been collected in numerous volumes, and quoted in many books.
