Columbia Gardens Butte Montana Postcard Dance Pavilion Anaconda Copper Mining

Columbia Gardens was Butte's beloved 'mountain playground,' carved from barren land at a cost of a million dollars by Copper King W. A. Clark and later owned and operated by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company. This bright chrome-era postcard showcases the ornate white Dance Pavilion set amid immaculate lawns, flower beds in full bloom, and towering trees, with a bare Montana mountain rising dramatically behind. The gardens were demolished around 1973 to expand the Berkeley Pit copper mine, making images like this the only way to see the site as it stood.

  • Published and photographed by Lauretta Studio, Butte, Montana (Mr. A. Walkup); stock no. ICS-46662
  • Chrome-era color postcard, vivid and colorful
  • Captioned text on reverse notes creation by Copper King W. A. Clark; later owned by Anaconda Copper Mining Company
  • Unused and unposted; only marking is a light penciled price notation on the reverse
  • Gardens razed ca. 1973 for Berkeley Pit mine expansion — a sought-after piece of Butte history
Condition

Unused and unposted; clean and bright with a light penciled price notation on the reverse and only minor toning to the back. Corners are square and the image is vivid.

Shipping & Packaging

How a card ships depends on its price, and the rate is shown on every listing before you buy.

  • Standard-size card under $20 — $1.00 flat. Semi-rigid protective sleeve, sent tracked by Standard Envelope. (Oversize, fold-out and lot listings cannot go by envelope: they ship at the calculated rate below whatever their price -- the listing\'s own shipping line is always the one that applies.)
  • $20 to $100 — postage calculated at checkout for your address. Rigid stay-flat mailer, USPS Ground Advantage, tracked, with $100 of carrier insurance included.
  • Over $100 — postage calculated at checkout. Rigid mailer, UPS Ground, insured for the full purchase price. Orders over $250 require a signature on delivery.

Buying more than one? They travel together in a single well-protected package, and shipping is charged per card at the rate shown on each listing. On a larger order we will often upgrade the whole lot into one tracked stay-flat package at our own cost — you are never charged more than the rates above.
