Collection of 9 Vintage Greek/Eastern Orthodox devotional icons and religious plaques, featuring several important saints and representations of the Virgin Mary and Christ. The group includes a variety of Byzantine-style reproductions, with several pieces having specific Cyprus and Greece, monastery or ecclesiastical connections.
The collection includes:
Saint George the Trophy-Bearer enthroned with Saints Gerontios and Polychronia, with Christ and angels – approx. 26 × 20 cm.
Saint George slaying the dragon – framed under glass, with an inscription referencing Karyes/Mount Athos – approx. 26 × 20 cm.
Virgin Mary Theotokos with Christ Child – antiqued silver riza/oklad-style reproduction on a substantial wooden plaque – approx. 25 × 18 cm.
Saint Sophia with her daughters Faith, Hope and Love – Byzantine-style plaque reproducing artwork attributed to Evang. Theodorakis and dated 1990 – approx. 27 × 20 cm.
Saint Demetrius the Myrrh-Streamer – mounted warrior representation on Byzantine-style plaque – approx. 26.5 × 19.5 cm.
Saint Catherine of Alexandria – depicted with her traditional cross, palm and wheel – approx. 28 × 21.5 cm.
Virgin Mary Pantanassa with Christ Child – Cyprus icon bearing a label from the Holy Metropolis of Tamassos and Orinis and the Holy Monastery of Panagia Pantanassa at Kotsiatis – approx. 20.5 × 13.5 cm.
Saint Penelope the Virgin-Martyr – Cyprus memorial icon dated 2020, dedicated in memory of Penelope Koptidou and associated with Hieromonk Dionysios – approx. 12.5 × 9.5 cm, still wrapped.
Virgin Mary “Inexhaustible Chalice” / Deliverance of the Addicted – Cyprus devotional icon associated with the Holy Metropolis of Morphou, with original explanatory label on the reverse – approx. 16.5 × 13.5 cm, still wrapped.
The pieces are predominantly printed/reproduced Orthodox images mounted on wooden, MDF or wood-fibre plaques, rather than antique hand-painted icons. One Saint George icon is presented behind glass in a blue frame. Several have wall-hanging fittings on the reverse.
The collection displays traditional Byzantine and Eastern Orthodox iconography, including gold backgrounds, Greek inscriptions and intentionally antiqued or distressed effects. Several pieces have particularly interesting Cyprus provenance or religious institutional labels.
Condition: Used/vintage condition with varying signs of age, storage and handling, including edge and corner wear, rubbing, scratches, marks, staining, small chips and other imperfections. Some distressed and crackled effects are part of the reproduced artwork itself. Two smaller icons remain wrapped in clear plastic. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition, construction, inscriptions and measurements of each piece.
An attractive and varied collection suitable for Greek Orthodox and Christian religious collectors, devotional use, Byzantine-style wall décor or collection/resale.
All 9 icons are sold together as one lot.
