The Clinton Iowa Bridge captured during construction: One of the joys of photography is capturing an event or beautiful structure during construction. The lower cost of producing the carte de visite allowed the individual or firm who paid for these to be produced a reasonable cost, too.The two CDVs, taken by J. Blackhall of Clinton, Iowa, offer such a documentary view. The top image shows the architecture from a creative perspective with a significant amount of the material in the foreground. The second CDVs shows a man close to the camera appearing as if he is getting ready to lift some of the wood boards or beams. The Mississippi river is also captured with a lovely quality and there are also two horse drawn carriages with the bridge seen in the distance. The bridge financing involved multiple railroad companies and illustrates a significant need at the time: crossing the Mississippi River by railroad.
