Civil War Model 1840 Artillery Sword with Scabbard. The ricasso is faintly marked \"Made By\", \"Ames Mfg. Co.\", \"Chicopee\", \"Mass\", and the reverse has \"U.S.\", \"J.C.W.\", \"1865\". The grip and pommel will move a tiny bit if you force them, the guard has a little wiggle. The grip leather is 80% complete and has been painted gold at some point (likely for GAR display and/or parades). The twisted wire is complete. The guard and pommel have been painted gold. The blade has been unsharpened, a few nicks, has age spots with surface rust scattered throughout, and there is a slight bend about 13\" up from the tip. The washer is intact. The scabbard is solid with no dents/dings, was painted gold at some point, surface rust scattered throughout (heaviest on the lower third), and it is tight on/off by the ricasso. Length of the blade is 32 5/16\" (1 1/4\" wide and 3/8\" thick), the sword is 37 13/16\", and in the scabbard it is 39 3/8\".
