Chinese famille rose porcelain covered jar, kamcheng form, with iron red gourd shaped lugs and a wire bail handle. Hand painted in soft enamels with court ladies in a garden, one carrying a tray, another seated by a balustrade among bamboo, plum blossom and pierced scholar rocks. The reverse carries a poem in black running script with a red seal and an artist's signature column. The domed lid repeats the garden scene with two ladies beneath a willow and is topped by a molded double gourd finial with trailing vines, gilt highlighted. A four character inscription runs along the lid rim and the base bears a four character iron red seal mark.Approx. 7.5 in tall with the lid on, 8 in across the lugs.The painting style, palette and iron red seal mark are consistent with Jingdezhen work of the Republic period, circa 1920s to 1940s. Sold unattributed: I am not an authenticator, the mark and signature are shown clearly in the photos, and buyers should judge age and attribution for themselves from the images. Happy to send more detail shots of any mark on request.Condition: There is a small chip to the tip of the lower gourd lobe on the lid finial, photographed close up. The rest of the finial and its trailing tendrils are complete. The body, lid and both lugs show no chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration. Gilt rim line shows light wear. Unglazed foot rim has the usual kiln grit and firing specks. Interior has minor staining.
