Unique antique photograph portrait of the HARVARD UNIVERSITY VARSITY ROWING CLUB CREW OF 1899. The men are dressed in formal late-Victorian/turn-of-the-century suits and fedora and bowler hats. The building is probably their boathouse, and we can see a hint of what must be the boats/shells inside. It is a cabinet photo with the margins broken off, so it measures 9x11 inches as it is, and is blank on the reverse.
It has names and info for three of the six men: \"Tilton [class of] \'00, No. 4\", \"Wadleigh \'00, Cox\" and \"Bancroft \'98, No. 6\" (and all three from the 1899 season of varsity crew).
When I searched those three names together, I got the 1899 Harvard crew, and presumably the unnamed men are from the same crew (if that\'s the case, their names would be either Ladd, Wood, Emory, Evans, DuBois, or a second Bancroft).
If it is HUGH BANCROFT in the image, it would be of note; he became a highly prominent figure as the publisher of the Wall Street Journal and president of Dow Jones & Company.
The edges of cabinet card are broken off, but the photo itself is EX; and there\'s room to trim it.
