CIVIL WAR 6TH US CAVALRY KILLED & CAPTURED SHENANDOAH VALLEY 1864:

The 6th US Cavalry was a notable US Arnmy regiment with a long record of battles and skirmishes during the Civil War. An Original Union Army "Return of Captain Benjamin Hutchins Company A 6th Regiment of Cavalry USA for the Month of August 1864" enumerating men present for duty with comments incl Louis Negler "Killed by Guerrillas near Charleston Va while on duty" also some as listed as absent messengers or on duty at HQ General Sheridan's HQ, and names some men absent in the hospital, also one serving as Telegraph Dispatch, 2 men "Dunn & Nouse" in Hospital & Prisoners, Richmond, Virginia, and Private Remington "wounded and left in the hands of the Enemy at Snicker's Gap Virginia", (aka Snickers Ferry, Clarke County, Virginia), This was the retained copy of Captain Hutchins , unsigned, from his papers. Comes w service info- Captain Benjamin Hutchins who was himself captured a few months later at Lacey's Springs, Virginia. 1p 15 x 12" ink. The Return came with some other 6th Cavalry documents retained by an officer, and all with fire damage. This Return is repaired with acid free museum archival tape and is stable, missing some text along the fold. Comes w service info including Private John Dunn who listed as captured (and died a POW art Andersonville Prison, Georgia).
