Description
Offered here is an impressive 8.45-ounce mineralized ore specimen from the historic Bessie G Mine in Colorado’s La Plata Mining District.
This piece measures approximately 2" wide × 3½" long and displays a striking combination of bright metallic mineralization, dark metallic telluride-rich areas, and crystalline quartz. The specimen has excellent contrast, with metallic surfaces running through and alongside the quartz matrix. Under magnification, the mineralized areas show especially attractive metallic texture and luster.
The Bessie G Mine is a historic precious-metal telluride deposit, known for a complex mineral assemblage that includes gold- and silver-bearing tellurides. This specimen comes directly from material associated with the mine and makes an excellent example of the unusual mineralization for which the La Plata district is known.
Specimen Details:

The Bessie G is historically associated with telluride mineralization including calaverite, sylvanite, krennerite, hessite and coloradoite, along with native gold and other sulfide/telluride minerals. Individual metallic minerals in this particular specimen have not been laboratory identified, so the listing does not claim that every one of those species is present in this exact piece.
The photographs are an important part of the description and show the actual specimen you will receive. Several images were taken close-up to show the metallic mineralization, crystalline structure and surface detail.
Collector Appeal
This is not simply a decorative quartz specimen. Its combination of historic mine provenance, substantial 8.45-ounce size, heavy visible metallic mineralization, and telluride-district origin makes it particularly interesting for collectors of Colorado mining specimens, gold ores, tellurides, historic mine material and unusual precious-metal mineralization.
A substantial display specimen from one of Colorado's fascinating historic telluride deposits.
