Baltimore & Ohio Railroad - RARE VERSION - 1927 Era - Railroad China Dining Car TeapotFor your consideration is an outstanding the RARE VERSION of the 1927 to 1928 era 6 3/4" wide (from the tip of the spout across to the opposite side of the handle) by 4" tall authentic railroad dining car teapot in the much greater white base (compared to the normal rare teapot that was more blue pattern and less white base) made by the Scammell China Co.with the Lamberton Design Patent backstamp in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Centenary pattern.
Any of the teapots in the Centenary pattern made by Lamberton area rare. However, this more white base and less flow blue Centenary pattern is very scarce and is rare seen, that is, in comparison to the already rare Lamberton Design Patent almost all blue designed made ones.
If you collect rare railroad china, vintage high-end restaurant ware, or need the much harder to find piece to add to your B&O Centenary collection, then you should at least consider this stunning piece for your collection.
These particular teapot / coffee pot would have been used aboard the B&O’s diner, parlor, or lounge cars, and was used in connection with the B&O railroad silver soldered –silver plate and glassware for table service. It would have been used for serving hot tea, hot coffee, or other hot beverages to passenger while aboard the trains in the most elegant service. It is the heavyweight type steamship, restaurant, and hotel china.
It was made circa 1927 to 1928 by the Scammell China Co. and has Scammell's Lamberton Design Patent backstamp. This is “NOT” one of the later product piece nor is it part of what the B&O Railroad museum used to offer (though those are still nice, this is the authentic real deal). This set is authentic B&O dining car china. The scenes on the side features early steam locomotives: The Atlantic - 1832 and The Phillip E. Thomas - 1838.
Such passenger trains that this cup & saucer set may have seen service on was the Cincinnatian, Capital Limited, National Limited, and many other B&O trains that only bore a number but did provide a dining car.
While aboard the B&O passenger trains of the era when this teapot was made and used, some of the towns and cities that this piece may have traveled through included Chicago, Beardstown, Ashland, Springfield, Decatur, Hume, Pana, Taylorville, Altamont, East St. Louis, Sandoval, Odin, Salem, Flora, Olney, Bridgeport, Lawrenceville, Sumner, Norris City, and Shawneetown Illinois; Vincennes, Washington, Mitchell, Seymour, North Vernon, New Albany, Indianapolis, Rushville, Connersville, Marshall, Roachdale, Brazil Junctin, Gary, Wellsboro, La Paz, Wawasee, Garrett, and Auburn Indiana; Columbus, Lima, Ottaw, Toledo, Chillicothe, Shawnee, Butler, Wooster, Cincinnati, and Hamden Ohio; Parkersburg, Grafton, Charleston, Wheeling, Martins Ferry, Youngstown, Elkins, Richwood, Salem, Canton, Newton Falls, and Warren West Virginia; Pittsburgh, Mt. Jewett, Bradford, Meyersdale, Philadelphia, and Meyersdale Pennsylvania; New York, Baltimore, Annapolis, Cumberland, and Harpers Ferry Maryland; Washington D.C., and Strasburg Junction and Winchester Virginia, to name just a few.
This tea pot is in excellent condition with only light usage, no chips, and no cracks. It has the correct and matching lid.
