Beautiful antique French religious Agnus Dei inconsecrated wax, blessed during the pontificate ofPope Leo XIII (1878–1903), and presented in itsoriginal double-glazed oval frame.
The sacred wax medallion depicts theLamb of God (Agnus Dei) and is surrounded by the Latin inscriptions\"LEO XIII PONT. MAX.\" and\"ECCE AGNUS DEI...\", identifying it as a papally blessed devotional object.
The composition is beautifully enhanced with an elaborategold paperolles floral wreath, bordered by ared cord and housed in an elegantblackened wooden frame, reflecting the refined craftsmanship of late 19th century monastery work.
Traditionally known as the Agnus Dei, these devotional wax medallions weresolemnly blessed by the Pope from the 16th century until the practice ceased in 1964,making surviving examples increasingly desirable among collectors ofreligious art and papal memorabilia.
