Antique German Porcelain Tea Caddy Hand Painted w/Silver Lid Meissen c. late 1700s

Description
A rare and historically compelling genuine 18th-century Meissen porcelain tea caddy (Tee Büchse) with solid silver mounts.
The rectangular, arched-shoulder porcelain body is exceptionally potted with a rare, technically significant unglazed biscuit base, characteristic of early square-molded Meissen hollowware forms. The caddy's face is exquisitely hand-painted in underglaze and overglaze enamels with a delicate, asymmetrical Deutsche Blumen (German flowers) garland, sweeping diagonally across the brilliant white glaze and featuring highly detailed anemones and forget-me-nots.
The neck has been expertly updated with a custom-engineered, cork-lined solid silver cap fabricated by the master German silversmith factory Wilhelm Binder. This addition highlights an elegant narrative of interwar familial preservation, transforming a cherished, lidless 150-year-old heirloom into an airtight, utilitarian vanity object.

Hallmarks & Identification
  • Artisan Mark: Features the iron-red numeric painter's mark "43", applied to identify the specific master enamel artist responsible for the floral decoration.
  • Silver Cap Marks: Stamped with the official German national Reichsstempel—the Half-Moon and Imperial Crown—alongside the .835 decimal purity mark. It bears the prominent maker's mark WTB for Wilhelm Binder, followed immediately by the stamped retailer's mark GANSSEN, indicating it was commissioned for or retailed by a luxury German boutique jeweler.
Condition Notes
  • Silver & Seal: The .835 silver cap shows a sharp, legible stamping. No structural dents. The internal cork core remains intact, providing a tight, secure seal against the porcelain collar.
Reference#:   Condition: Excellent Year: c. late 1700 Country: Germany Maker: Meissen Height: 5 in Materials: Porcelain
