Exceptional, completely intact piece of history: a matching heirloom portrait pair depicting a young Edwardian-era husband and wife in their original frames. These showcases masterful, authentic pyrography (Flemish Art/wood-burning) popular during the peak of the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movement (circa 1900–1915).
- The Design: Each frame features an organic, hand-charred vine and leaf design accented by meticulous hand-stippled "punchwork" background texturing and raised circular medallions. The rich, aged honey-oak color highlights a gorgeous natural wood patina.
- The Portraits: The photographs are beautifully preserved antique monochrome studio portraits. The young woman is elegantly captured in a high-necked, ruffled white lace Edwardian gown adorned with a floral corsage. The gentleman features a crisp, high stiff-collared shirt, formal cravat tie, and a perfectly styled handlebar mustache.
- The Hardware & Backing: At some point in their lifespan, these frames were professionally reinforced and preserved by a skilled craftsman. The fragile original soft backings were replaced with heavy, sturdy, modern machine-routed oak panels secured with clean flat-head screws to ensure the historic portraits remain safe. They include attached twisted wire hanging loops and are ready to hang.
