This unusual handled tea strainer is richly decorated with hand-painted pink roses, deep burgundy accents and ornate gold detailing. The pierced porcelain bowl features a small floral motif in the center, with additional hand-painted decoration surrounding the rim.
The underside bears the early maple leaf “Hand Painted NIPPON” backstamp associated with Morimura-era Japanese export porcelain. The small size of the maple leaf and overall characteristics of the mark are consistent with period examples.
An especially attractive piece for a collection of antique Nippon porcelain, Japanese export ware, tea accessories or Victorian/Edwardian-era tableware.
Condition: Good antique condition. No chips, cracks or repairs noted. There may be minor age-related wear to the hand-painted and gold decoration consistent with a piece more than 100 years old. Please review photographs carefully as part of the condition description.
