This hand-woven 13-inch Diné (Navajo) ceremonial basket, traditionally known as a ts\'aa\' or wedding basket, showcases the distinctive coiled design crucial to Southwestern tribal ceremonies. The basket features tight, uniform concentric coils wrapped over a multi-rod foundation. The outer edge is finished with a characteristic cross-hatched herringbone rim stitch. According to sacred oral history, this finishing stitch was inspired by the overlapping pattern of juniper leaves given to Changing Woman by Talking God.Color Palette: It displays a beautiful, weathered tan patina on its natural sumac or willow background. The traditional geometric step patterns are woven in muted dark grey/black and deep russet-brown tones, likely derived from native plant dyes like mountain mahogany root and wild berries.Great Patina and Ethnographic Wear.
